I have been painting with watercolors and oils for 20 years. Prior to that I worked with clay on my free time and in the medical field for my "job". In search of change in 1997, I began studying at the University of Southern Maine in their art program and subsequently graduated in 2001 with a BFA in painting. This program introduced me to several media from which I selected painting and artist book making.
The primary theme of my paintings has been the natural environment of mountains, fields, farmland and seashores. Book making is inspired by personal events or thoughts. I live in a farming valley in Pennsylvania and belong to a group of artists called "The Farmland Preservation Artists", (see link)
This past June of 2009, I attended a workshop at Haystack School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine and studied casein tempera painting. I found it extremely satisfying and rewarding and have been using only this media in recent months. I enjoy the facility with which I can layer and create detail. A series of "close ups" of the forest floor is under way and you can see some of them on this website.
